Following a pilot in other areas of Scotland, Adult Disability Payment opens for new applications across Ayrshire from 25 July 2022, before coming into general operation elsewhere in Scotland on 29 August 2022. For claimants in Scotland Adult Disability Payment replaces the Department for Work and Pensions benefits Personal Independence Payment and Disability Living Allowance for adults.

Any new claims from 25 July 2022 for adults under pension age, with an Ayrshire postcode, will be made for Adult Disability Payment.

Existing claims of Personal Independence Payment will gradually transfer over to Adult Disability Payment by the end of 2025.

Disability Living Allowance for adults, aged 18years and over, will gradually transfer over to Adult Disability Payment. If you were born on or after 8 April 1948, your benefit will move between summer 2022 and summer 2025. There will be no gaps in payment and you will keep getting your regular Disability Living Allowance payments until your benefit moves. If you were born before 8 April 1948, your benefit will move after summer 2025.The process will have completed by the end of 2025.

Existing Personal Independence Payment and Disability Living Allowance claimants will be contacted at the time their transfer to Adult Disability Payment will be carried. There is no need to re-apply and payments will remain the same during transfer. Payments will then be made by Social Security Scotland instead of the Department for Work and Pensions.
