New claims for Disability Living Allowance can only made for children under 16. Disability Living Allowance may be considered for children who have difficulties walking or need much more care/looking after than other children who do not have physical and/or mental health/behavioural challenges.
Claimants 16 and over who already have an award of Disability Living Allowance will remain in receipt whilst they meet eligibility criteria. However these claimants will only receive Disability Living Allowance until such time as their claim is reviewed and they are then invited to claim Personal Independence Payment. Rules are different for those born on or before 8 April 1948. See our hints to claiming sheet.
