Carer Support Payment is replacing Carers Allowance for new claimants in East Ayrshire from 19 August 2024. If you already get Carers Allowance and live in Scotland you will move over automatically in the period through to Spring 2025.
Carer’s Allowance can affect the benefits of the person you care for, so check before you apply.
You could get Carers Allowance paid if you care for someone at least 35 hours a week and they get certain disability benefits. You can backdate your claim by up to 3 months.
All of the following must apply:
- you’re 16 or over
- you spend at least 35 hours a week caring for someone
If someone else also cares for the same person as you, only one of you can claim Carer’s Allowance.
